Success Oriented Physical Education
(S.O.P.E.)
The mission of S.O.P.E is to provide for students with disabilities accommodations necessary for equal and effective participation in Physical Education experiences, while also providing the opportunity for general education students to build relationships with the special needs students in our school, learn about disabilities and how to work with students with disabilities.
TutorsGeneral educations students apply at the end of the year to be in next years S.O.P.E. class. Please see Mr. Gerrits in early May to learn about the application process. Tutors will take the class for the entire year and earn a full P.E. or elective credit.
GradingTutor's grades will be based on total points earned. All points will be weighted evenly and will be made up of daily points, assignments, and quizzes.
Daily points- Each day is worth 4 points and will be graded based on attendance, behavior, attitude, participation, organization, etc. Daily points can only be made up for excused absences. |
StudentsSpecial needs students from Mrs. Sheridan's and Mrs. Manning's class are the "students" in S.O.P.E. and receive a minimum of one on one attention from a tutor. Students take S.O.P.E. for a full year and earn a full P.E. credit.
Late or Missing WorkStudents may turn in late work, provided that it is complete, but a percentage of the total point value is lost each day an assignment is late. Work missed due to excused absences must be requested by the student either ahead of time or the day s/he returns to class—the teacher and student will establish a timeline for the completion of makeup work for full credit.

Make Up Points for Excused Absences
There will be opportunities to earn points by attending and helping at activities for our special needs students that are organized by Bear Crew 2.
Students may choose to help at these activities for extra credit points as well. You may also check with Mr. Gerrits about other opportunities for points.
